Not-Quite Tutorials:

Let's help each other learn the little things in our yarn crafts, or any crafts that grab our interest.  Video tutorials are a bit beyond my scope at the moment, but I'd love to share with you some of my tricks of the trade as best I can.  Here we go -

PomPoms:

I have always been reluctant to make these fussy little nuggets, until last year. I never could get them tight enough that the strings wouldn't eventually shed. Last year, I discovered the secret to making them easily and most importantly SECURELY. (Well, as secure as you can make a homemade pompom)

Here are the tools you will need:
A Pompom maker, bought or homemade
A pair of SHARP scissors
A small slicker brush - if you want your pom to be fluffy
A hot glue gun - (this is the secret ingredient)
And YARN (not pictured, lol) I find acrylics and blends work well.
- I love this Bucilla wooden pompom maker, because it's so sturdy and easy to hold. Unfortunately, I don't believe they make them anymore. But you can make them for free with cardboard customized to the size you need. I'm sure there are you tube videos for days on that subject.
- Once your pom is made, put a dab of hot glue at the center of it. I actually put a couple of dabs working my way around the core of the pom. When it's cool, it's ready for the slicker brush.
- I purchased the little slicker brush at a dollar store years ago, and of course it's never been used on animal fur. I just hold the pom by the strings and brush away until I'm happy with the look. If the glue is done correctly, the slicker will not pull any of the strings out of the pom.
- Shape it with scissors if you need to. Voila, you're done.
